The funny thing is, I didn’t even choose to be an estate agent. Not so long ago, I was working as a restaurant manager/area manager for the Ma Cuisine group in west London. I was overseeing the day-to-day running of all the restaurants and also working in one of them full time. I’d been doing this for three years after leaving university with a law degree, having decided that I didn’t want to pursue a career in law.

A year ago I would never have thought I’d be whizzing around London in a company car meeting hundreds of new people each month and influencing the transaction of hundreds of thousands of pounds on a daily basis! I was a student living in sleepy Bournemouth, never having spent more than three days at a time in London and never having had any involvement whatsoever in the property market.

My career in estate agency wasn’t exactly planned. One day, quite a few years back now, I was introduced to my parent’s estate agent who was a similar age to me and was loving his job. We had a long chat about agency and his enthusiasm was infectious. I’d wanted to get into sales anyway, as it’s a field where you can control what you earn because of the commission - in other words, you get out what you put in. From that day on, estate agency was always on the cards.
