Day in The Life...
Zelia, Assistant Lettings Manager
I like to kick off my day at 08.30 with a coffee and crumpet before embarking on emails. Then it’s time for calls, around 80 a day, registering new applicants looking to rent and discussing their needs so I can match them to a suitable property. It can also be a chat with landlords to arrange viewings to give valuations. And on viewings, well I generally do around six a day.
What I enjoy most is the variety in my day – anything from getting keys cut, to sending out tenant referencing documents, to conducting viewings on new properties. Applicants often drop in to the office too so they can preview new properties and book early appointments before we start marketing a property on the portals.
I adopt a solutions approach to my work too – listening first and recognising landlords and applicants often have different requirements when negotiating the conditions for the rental offer! I strive to find an agreeable way forward that both parties find satisfactory. I also make myself available out of hours too – so the role can often be 24/7 – and it’s certainly never quiet!
Andrina, Head of Property Management
I begin my day making a list of all the various activities to be completed for our Balham and City managed property portfolio, then I spend the first few hours liaising with tenants and landlords on tenancy renewals, and later in the day deal with the admin.
In this role being organised is vitally important as you’ll get frequent interruptions on issues that may require immediate attention – and building strong working relationships with your clients is key, ensuring you work through and agree actions together.
If you want to work in property management, I’d say you need to be a great communicator, a good time manager (as you’ll have to multi-task)…and it goes without saying – you must have plenty of common sense!
What I most enjoy is the team spirit here, where we bounce ideas off one another. And when I’m not in the office, I enjoy the social side at Atkinson Mcleod too.
