A guide to living in Tooting

With the cheapest Council Tax in the capital and having a meteoric crater on Mars named after it, some would say that living in Tooting is out of this world. The quiet and desirable Tooting Bec is considered an ideal location for a peaceful and fulfilling London existence.

Tooting Bec Road and Trinity Road, benefitting from the gentrification flowing from neighbouring Clapham, are busy centres, well-equipped with all the modern amenities and shops one needs. If you require more hustle, bustle and diversity, then Tooting Broadway has an eclectic mix of shops and food outlets.

“Large period homes are perhaps the most popular properties in Tooting Bec, the Victorian houses on the Heaver Estate are particularly attractive to first time buyers.”

Besides East London’s celebrated Brick Lane, Tooting perhaps boasts one of the best selections of curry houses in London. Furthermore, fast-food enthusiasts will not be disappointed round here.

The area houses a gorgeous green space in the form of Tooting Bec Common, which is equipped with tennis courts and an athletics track. The abundance of commons around this area of South West London means you’ll never be starved of fresh air and outdoor space.

Large period homes are perhaps the most popular properties in Tooting Bec, the Victorian houses on the Heaver Estate are particularly attractive to first time buyers.Alternatively, in recent years there has been an upsurge in contemporary Brownfield developments, most notably the conversion of St George’s Hospital into quality flats.

Eating & Drinking

With over 50 restaurants and bars in the area, it is difficult to single out just two. However, the Tram and Social, a converted tram shed, is well worth a mention. Bursting with karaoke, live music and open mic nights, this venue always provides a satisfying night out. Perfectly placed on the Tooting Bec Road, Cassio Ristorante and Pizzeria, combines a fine dining experience with hearty Italian cuisine.
